开场12分钟，曼城的迪布尼由左路传中，大卫施华短传给史达宁在六码外以左脚射入利物浦的球门，为曼城先开记录。下半场范戴克近距离射门被门楣挡出。77分钟，马迪普接应云迪积克的传中，在三码外以头锤为利物浦追平1-1。[9]
沙拿在比赛尾段曾有黄金机会，但被巴禾挡出，接著的头锤攻门又在门线上被基尔·获加挡出。最终比赛进入十二码阶段，纳尔杜姆是唯一射失十二码的球员，被巴禾扑出。最后，热苏斯射入最后一球，曼城以5-4胜出。[10]
